Highland Spring: sustainable and eco-friendly bottled water
Highland Spring is the UK’s number one bottled water brand, popular with office staff and high street consumers alike. Not only is it popular, but it’s also one of the most environmentally-friendly bottled water brands on the market, and one we’re pleased to be able to supply offices and businesses in and around London with. Here, we take a look at the history of Highland Spring and its natural spring water, its ethical approach, and two of our favourite bottles.
These elegant glass bottles will look at home on the boardroom table, or on the refreshment stand at an important meeting or conference. This water is refreshing on its own or perfect as a mixer with fruit juices or cordials.
Simple and pure still water, bottled at source and as nature intended. Choose these well-designed glass bottles to show office staff and visitors that essential hydration doesn’t have to mean compromising on taste – or on environmental ethics.
The history of Highland Spring
Highland Spring has been drawing natural spring water from the Ochil Hills in Perthshire, Scotland, since 1979.Today, the Highland Spring Group still has its headquarters in Blackford, Perthshire – the village at the foot of the Ochil Hills where it all began. The Group incorporates a number of other brands, including Speyside Glenlivet and Hydr8. Across its four bottling plants, the Group employs more than 400 staff and has a production capacity of over 700 million litres of water a year.
Natural spring water
The natural spring water that goes into every bottle of Highland Spring takes around 15 years to filter through the layers of basalt and sandstone that make up the Ochil Hills in Perthshire. The water is gently pumped to the surface, and then down to the bottling plant in Blackford.Nothing is taken away or added to the water (apart from carbonation for the sparkling range), leaving customers safe in the knowledge that they’re drinking water exactly as nature intended.
Ochil Hills: certified organic land
Highland Spring is the only major bottled water brand to draw water from organic land accredited by the Soil Association and has been since 2001. That means no farming, agricultural spraying, building or habitation is permitted on the land – the land has been kept free from pesticides and pollution for many years. The brand is proud of the measures it takes to protect the environment. By signing up to the third phase of the Courtauld Agreement, the Highland Spring Group has committed to playing its role in reducing waste across the grocery retail sector by 1.1 million tonnes by 2015.
Furthermore, Highland Spring also partners with the Woodland Trust – the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. For every employee, Highland Spring planted a sapling on the Ochil Hills – which equates to more than 400 trees – in order to help the Trust meet its goal of doubling the UK’s native woodland by 2050.
